Before Your Body Piercing Appointment
Things to consider and how to prepare for your Piercing appointment, this
applies to walk-in clients also.
So, you’ve decided to get pierced. Great! Here are a few tips on what you should
do prior to getting pierced.
Choosing a body art establishment can be difficult. You want a reputable place,
with a good hygiene record, as well as a friendly and talented staff. This can
be a complicated choice, with many large corporate body art establishments and
numerous smaller businesses that are out there. Deciding on which place to go is
often harder than the choice to get pierced. And depending on your locale, you
may not have many, or any, options close at hand – so you may have to do some
traveling.
A good place to start your search is to ask around. Check with everyone you
know, and even people you don’t – good reputations are usually hard won, and
that effort shows to their clientele. Also, check in with your local Health
Department or Board of Health – they are the ones who are setting and monitoring
body art regulations for your area. And lastly, stop in to the place you’ve
chosen, speak with a body art professional. You can request to see a portfolio,
take a tour, view jewelry, check prices and forms of payment accepted. This is
also a good time to ask about piercing procedures: make certain everything is
single use (never re-used), and you can inquire what sort of materials are used.
You can also request spore test results, as well as Material Safety Data Sheets
for the jewelry sold there.
Once that is decided and you are ready to get your piercing, be sure to eat
before your piercing. Being nervous on an empty stomach can make you light
headed.
Plan plenty of time to get the work done. No need to be rushing in and out. An
artist is going to take as much time as he or she needs to make their work
spectacular – and this type of art is no exception. In addition, for those who
don’t have an appointment, there may be a line of people ahead of you. Also, if
your schedule allows, try to choose a mild weather day to get your piercing –
humid, sticky weather can lead to lightheadedness, and bellowing freezing
temperature days can make putting a hat or jacket over a fresh piercing very
uncomfortable.

Be sure you have any identification you may need. If you are a minor, and your
area allows for underage body art, check your studio’s policies and
identification requirements.
